Day 1: Rio de Janeiro
Morning arrival in Rio, the pulsating sun and fun capital of South America. Meeting at the airport and transfer to your hotel. The balance of the day is at leisure to relax. Tonightenjoy dinner at a traditional Churrasquería (barbecue) restaurant, followed by a spectacular Brazilian samba show. (D)Day 2: Rio de Janeiro
Our morning tour begins at Copacabana and Ipanema two of the world's most famous beaches. Then, a cable car takes to the top of Sugar Loaf Mountain for a panoramic view of the beaches and Guanabara Bay. Afternoon at leisure for shopping or just relaxing at the beach. (B)Day 3: Rio de Janeiro
After breakfast, another day of sightseeing includes a drive through the fashionable Barra District. We depart towards the base of Corcovado Mountain. A short train ride to the summit. Here, at 2,400 feet above the city stands one of South America's most famous landmarks, the 125-foot statue of "Christ the Redeemer". The panorama of the city below is testament to why most visitors consider Rio to be one of the most spectacular and beautiful cities in the world. (B)Day 4: Rio de Janeiro / Iguassu Falls
A morning flight to Iguassu Falls, with check-in at the Das Cataratas Hotel, followed by a walking tour of one of the world's greatest natural wonders. Iguassu Falls consists of over 275 separate cataracts across a span of two and one half miles, wider than Victoria, higher than Niagara and more beautiful than both. (B)Day 5: Iguassu Falls / Salvador
Morning at leisure or choose an optional tour to either Itaipu Dam or the Argentine side of the falls. Afternoon transfer to the airport for your flight to Salvador (Bahia). Tonight, we enjoy dinner and a typical folkloric show performing Afro-Brazilian rituals like Candomble, Maculele and Samba de Roda along with an unforgettable presentation of Capoeira, the martial art fight and acrobatic folk dance. (B,D)Day 6: Salvador
This morning we tour the old quarter of Salvador, Brazil's first capital city founded by the Portuguese. This city's unique African character is a holdover from years of slave trading. We will view historical relics, religious art and the Pelourinho District, considered an important complex of colonial baroque architecture. Balance of day at leisure to feast your senses with the sights, sounds and unique cuisine of this mystical city. (B)Day 7: Salvador / Manaus
Early morning transfer to the airport for your flight to Manaus. Meeting and assistance upon arrival in Manaus and transfer to the Tropical Hotel. The balance of day at leisure. (B)Day 8: Manaus / Amazon Cruise
After breakfast, transfer to the pier and board the luxury yacht M/V Desafio. Your yacht is over 108 feet long, fully air-conditioned with a sundeck, covered deck, bar, restaurant and salon. Each cabin has a private bathroom, and sound system. We begin the cruise with a view of the city from the Amazon River and the famous Meeting of the Waters, where the Negro and the Solimoes Rivers join together to form the immense Amazon River. After an early breakfast, an intimate encounter with the jungle as we walk through the rain forest to explore the lush flora and fauna of the Amazon. Return to the boat for a refreshing swim, then we set sail for Samauma Island in the Anavilhanas Archipelago. Board motor boats this evening for an exciting search for alligators by flashlight. (B,L,D)Day 10: Amazon Cruise
Awake to the concert of birds as we navigate to Santa Maria, a typical Caboclo Indian village, to observe their daily lifestyle. Return to the boat for lunch while sailing. Afternoon excursion to fish the aggressive piranha. Evening lake excursion by canoe. (B,L,D)Day 11: Amazon Cruise / Manaus
Early morning bird watching excursion. Return to the boat and start navigating toward Manaus. Transfer back to the airport for your connecting flights.Remarks
