Day 4, March 05, 2019: Rio de Janeiro (Evening Carnival Parade Stands)

This morning is free to revel in the "Cidade Maravilhosa" (the Marvelous City) as the locals refer to Rio. Enjoy the marching Samba Schools parading continuous streams of people, music, color, motion and high energy. Carnival is everywhere... in the streets and squares, bars, clubs and all other venues, taking over the whole city of Rio.
Late afternoon you are pick up at your hotel and transfer to the Sambadrome - or Sambodromo, the "stadium" of samba. It consists of the Parading Avenue (the samba runway) and several independent concrete structures for the spectators (the bleachers) both sides along the Parading Avenue. The Sambodromo was designed by Brazil's world-famous architect, the modernist Oscar Niemeyer. It was built specifically for the Carnival samba Parade. This is where the best samba schools of Brazil compete for the honor of winning this event. Preparations for this top event take place year-round and represent for many participants their purpose in life. Each samba school participates with around 4'000 members at this competition including 200 to 400 drummers. While Carnival takes place in every city in Brazil... the main event certainly is in Rio de Janeiro.

Rio doesn't have a single moment of respite during the Carnival. Rio offers a great selection of Carnival balls you ought not to miss. So ask about optional Carnival Balls. Many of the famous balls are broadcast live on television. However, you need to attend one to experience true Carioca tradition. There are hundreds of balls held all over the city, but a few are simply outstanding by way of entertainment for tourists.
